CWS Windows & Doors: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CWS-compatible window and door parts throughout Woodland Hills, with most replacements running $450 – $1,800 installed depending on the part. If you’re calling us about a CWS window or door, it’s usually because something stopped closing right, started leaking during a Santa Ana wind event, or the hardware finally gave out after years of daily use. You need the right part matched to your specific CWS series, not a generic piece from a big-box aisle that’s close enough until it isn’t.

Here’s what we see most often in Woodland Hills homes with CWS products: failed balances on double-hung windows, worn rollers on sliding doors, deteriorating weatherstripping, and lock mechanisms that have loosened to the point where the door doesn’t seal against the jamb. The good news is CWS parts are still available, and we know which ones cross-reference correctly and which aftermarket pieces will cause problems six months down the line. Luca Romano has been matching window and door hardware to specific manufacturers in the West Valley for years, and the CWS lineup is one we work with regularly.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS (California Window & Sliding, now part of the CWS family of window brands) produced several series that show up throughout the Woodland Hills area, from older ranch homes in Woodland Hills proper to newer construction in the Warner Center corridor. The series we see most on service calls: the CWS 7500 sliding door, the 8000 series casement, and the 3000/4000 double-hung lines. If you’re not sure what you have, check the corner of the sash or the edge of the door panel for an etched label or a sticker with the series number. CWS usually etched the series and manufacture date into the corner of the glass, so look for that before you take anything apart.

One compatibility gotcha specific to CWS: the balance channel width on their 3000 series double-hung changed in 2015. If your windows predate that switch, a current CWS balance won’t seat in the old channel without a retrofit clip. We keep both the original-depth and retrofit balances stocked because we’ve seen too many Woodland Hills homeowners order the wrong one online and end up with a window that doesn’t stay up. When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket: for CWS locks, rollers, and balances, the OEM parts are still reasonably priced and match the original footprint exactly. Aftermarket weatherstripping and glazing gaskets are fine if you source the right durometer. We stock both and we’ll tell you straight which makes sense for your window.

Signs Your CWS Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • The window drops when you let go, or takes real effort to raise. This is a failed or overwound balance. CWS double-hungs use a block-and-tackle balance on most series, and when the plastic block wears out, the window won’t hold. The fix is a new pair of balances, not lubricant, and definitely not a stick propped in the track.
  • The sliding door grinds or takes two hands to move. Worn rollers on CWS 7500 sliders are the culprit in eight out of ten calls we run in Woodland Hills. The stainless roller bearings wear flat after years of patio traffic, and the door starts riding on the frame instead of the track. Ignore it long enough and you’ll score the track and turn a $120 job into a $600 one.
  • You can feel a draft or see daylight around the sash edge. Weatherstripping on CWS windows is compression gasket material that hardens in the Woodland Hills sun. Once it’s stiff, it stops pressing against the sash and air moves freely. The fix is re-gasketing the frame, which we do without pulling the window.
  • The lock doesn’t latch fully or the lock plate is loose. CWS casement locks use a die-cast keeper that strips out where the screw seats into the extrusion. When the keeper doesn’t hold, the lock can’t compress the sash against the weatherstripping, so the window both leaks and doesn’t secure.
  • Condensation between the panes. That means the seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. On most CWS products that’s a glass replacement, not a window replacement. We can order the exact IGU dimensions through our glass supplier and swap the sash insert without changing the frame.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Part / Service Typical Installed Range (Woodland Hills)
CWS balance pair (double-hung) $180 – $340 per window
Sliding door rollers (CWS 7500) $250 – $475 per door
Weatherstripping / re-gasket $150 – $350 per window or door
Casement lock & hardware assembly $120 – $260 per window
Insulated glass unit replacement $400 – $900 per sash
Full window replacement (CWS-compatible) $4,500 – $15,000 whole home

Every number above is an installed price: the part, the labor to swap it, the adjustment after install, and cleanup. We don’t give a parts-only quote and then surprise you with a labor line later. The spread depends on access – a second-story window over a sloped roof in the hills above Topanga Canyon Boulevard costs more to reach than a first-floor slider in a standard Woodland Hills track. We write the full price down before any work starts, and the invoice matches that number. The swap itself usually takes under an hour per window, and the work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right, written on every ticket.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before you spend money: get the CWS series number off the sash corner, note whether the problem is on the left or right side, and take a photo of the hardware with your phone. That information alone helps us pre-load the right parts before we head out. You can also clean the track on a slider and confirm whether the rollers are even touching the track. That’s where the safe DIY ends. Balances on a CWS double-hung are under tension, and popping the sash out without releasing the balance correctly can send parts flying. Sliding door rollers require lifting a heavy glass panel out of its frame, and casement hardware is riveted in place on most CWS models. If any part of this description makes you hesitate, call (341) 217-2776 and we’ll handle it. The estimate is free, and we’ll have the answer on the first visit, not the third.
