Master Halco Fence Installation: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide

Master Halco fence installation in Woodland Hills typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter, and most post-and-panel replacements are done in a day or two once materials are on site. We stock Master Halco-compatible post kits, brackets, rails, and gate hardware on our trucks, so we can often match a failed component the same visit. Owners usually discover a problem one of two ways: the gate starts dragging and won’t latch, or a section of fence leans hard after a Santa Ana wind event exposes a rotted post base.

Master Halco is the largest fence material supplier in the country, so their PostMaster steel posts, Select panels, and Estate vinyl lines show up all over the West Valley. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Master Halco, but we install and repair their systems regularly. If you have a sagging gate, a cracked post, or rusted hardware and you’re not sure which Master Halco series you have, call (341) 217-2776. We’ll identify it, price it, and give you a written number before any work starts.

Which Master Halco Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Master Halco makes three main fence families you’ll find in Woodland Hills yards: PostMaster (galvanized steel posts that replace 4×4 wood posts), Select (wood privacy panels, usually cedar or pressure-treated pine), and Estate (vinyl privacy and semi-privacy panels in 6-foot and 8-foot heights). Each family takes different brackets and hardware, and mixing them causes most of the installation failures we see.

The gotcha: PostMaster posts are designed for a specific rail width. Standard residential PostMaster posts take 1-5/8-inch wide horizontal rails, but commercial and heavy-duty lines take larger profiles. If someone retrofitted a PostMaster post with off-the-shelf rails from a home center, the bracket connection wallows out within a season or two. The surest way to identify your setup is to look for the Master Halco stamp on the post cap or the label inside a panel’s top rail channel. If that’s gone, take a photo of the bracket and post profile and text it to us before we come out. We carry both standard and heavy-duty PostMaster brackets on the truck.

For vinyl, OEM Master Halco parts are generally the better call. The wall thickness on Estate posts and rails is engineered to match their internal aluminum stiffeners, and aftermarket vinyl from a different extruder won’t always seat flush. For wood Select systems, quality aftermarket brackets in 14-gauge galvanized steel work fine and cost about 20% less than OEM without giving up anything in the field.

Signs Your Master Halco Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags and won’t latch. Usually the hinge posts are racking, which means the post base is compromised or the concrete footer cracked. If the gate weighs down the latch side, the hinges are gone, not misadjusted. Lubricating a bad hinge buys you a month before the post gives out entirely.
  • Fence section leaning in one direction only. Uniform lean across multiple sections points to wind loading on PostMaster posts that were set in less than 18 inches of concrete. Post bases in Woodland Hills clay soil heave with winter rain, and a shallow set becomes a sail every October when the dry winds hit.
  • Rust bleeding from brackets and screws. Master Halco’s standard white metal hardware is zinc-plated, not hot-dipped galvanized. Within 4 to 6 years in our marine-layer zone near Topanga, the plating gives out and the bracket swells, splitting the surrounding wood. If you see orange streaking, the bracket is failing even if the panel looks fine.
  • Vinyl post bulging at the base. Estate posts get their strength from the internal aluminum stiffener and the vinyl sleeve around it. When water intrudes through an unsealed post cap and pools at the footer, the stiffener corrodes, expands, and pushes out the vinyl. Caulking the cap won’t fix it once the aluminum is gone.
  • Horizontal rails falling out of routed posts. Wood panel rails ride in notched cutouts in the post. When the notches rot out, the rail drops and the panel separates. We see this furthest from the Coast Live Oaks that shade about half the Woodland Hills lots; the extra damp from shade and sprinklers accelerates the rot by years.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

Installed Master Halco fence replacement in Woodland Hills ranges from $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, material (wood vs. vinyl vs. steel-post hybrid), and what has to come out first. A basic 100-foot vinyl privacy run typically lands around $5,500 to $7,500, while a full PostMaster upgrade with wood infill runs toward the upper end once you factor in extra concrete and brackets.

Your written quote breaks out materials, labor, and disposal separately. That price is fixed. We haul the old fence, set new posts in proper concrete footers, hang every panel true, and leave the site raked clean. Every fence job is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we installed fails in the first year, we return and fix it on our dime. No phone tree, no “that’s normal settling.” Just a crew that shows up and makes it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before spending money. Walk the line and push on each post. Wiggle the brackets. Run a flat bar under a post base and see how deep the concrete goes. That diagnostic work costs you nothing but half an hour. Replacing a PostMaster post or re-setting a concrete footer, though, is where DIY owners hurt themselves and their fences.

The danger with steel posts is the weight. A 9-foot PostMaster post with two bags of wet concrete is a 60-pound lever swinging around your shins. If it slips while you’re setting it, it drives through drywall, shins, or sprinkler lines. We’ve also seen three separate Woodland Hills owners snap vinyl panels trying to save the old rails because the hidden aluminum stiffeners require an extra step nobody mentions on the video tutorials. Call us at (341) 217-2776 for a written price. You don’t have to take the bid. But you should see the number before you decide.
