Ameristar Fence Installation: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide

Ameristar fence installation in Woodland Hills typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter job, depending on lineal footage, gate count, and whether we’re pulling old fencing or starting fresh. We stock Ameristar-compatible panels, posts, gates, and hardware on the truck so most installs go from quote to clean job site in one or two days. Most Woodland Hills homeowners call us after a Santa Ana wind event exposes a failed post footing or a gate that’s been sagging since the last heavy rain softened the soil.

Ameristar makes three main lines we install regularly across Woodland Hills: Montage (their ornamental steel with a welded-through picket design), Echelon (a heavier-duty commercial-grade panel that shows up a lot on hillside properties), and Classic (the traditional spear-top and flat-top residential workhorse). The easiest way to identify yours is to check the panel’s horizontal rails: Montage uses a 2″ x 2″ post with a U-channel frame, Echelon steps up to 2.5″ posts with a thicker gauge wall, and Classic runs 2″ posts with roll-formed rails. If the fence is older than 10 years, the label is gone. That’s fine. We measure the post dimensions and rail profile on site and match it, because Ameristar’s rail-to-post bracket spacing changed slightly around 2015 and guessing wrong means a panel that won’t seat correctly.

One thing Woodland Hills owners should know: Ameristar’s powder coat handles our sun well, but the factory hardware (especially the zinc-plated gate hinges) doesn’t love the marine layer moisture we get on the south side of Mulholland. We carry OEM Ameristar parts and a coated aftermarket hinge set that’s holding up better within a mile of the 101 corridor.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or scrapes the concrete. This is almost always a hinge post that’s leaning, not a gate problem. The post footing in Woodland Hills clay expands and contracts with winter rain, slowly shifting the post out of plumb. Tightening the hinge bolts won’t fix it; the footing needs to be re-set or the post replaced.
  • Panels rattle loudly in wind. The factory rail-end brackets have worked loose, or the panel was never properly shimmed at install. Rattling accelerates wear on the powder coat where metal touches metal. You’ll see rust start at those contact points within a season.
  • Rust bleeding from post bases. On hillside installs, irrigation runoff puddles at post bases. Ameristar’s coating is good, but standing water finds a way in at the concrete line. Once rust stains the concrete, the post base is compromised and the post will eventually snap at grade in a strong wind event.
  • Posts wobble when pushed. The footing has failed, either from shallow concrete (a cheat on the original install we see often in tract-home neighborhoods like Walnut Acres) or soil shifting. An Ameristar panel is manageable weight; a full 8-foot section leaning into a neighbor’s yard after a wind gust is not.
  • Gate won’t close square to the latch. The frame has racked, usually because the top hinge bracket stripped out or the gate’s diagonal tension rod was removed at some point. We see this constantly on older homes where someone “fixed” the gate by cutting the rod.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For full Ameristar fence installation in Woodland Hills, the installed range is $3,500 to $9,000. The spread comes down to three things: how much fence, how many gates, and whether we’re working on a flat lot or a hillside that requires stepped panels and deeper post footings. A standard 50-60 linear foot backyard with one walk gate and one drive gate tends to land between $4,200 and $6,800. Hillside work above Topanga Canyon Boulevard, where we’re drilling into decomposed granite and stepping panels, pushes toward the top of the range.

Every quote is a written line-item price before any work starts. It includes removal of the old fence sections, new posts set in concrete, panels, gates, hardware, and cleanup. The number you approve is the number on the invoice. If it’s not done right, our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the fix.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check your gate’s hinge bolts, the post plumbness with a level, and whether panels are seated fully in their brackets. That’s worth five minutes on a Saturday. What you shouldn’t DIY is resetting a leaning post or replacing a panel on a sloped Woodland Hills lot. Setting posts properly means digging below our clay’s expansion line, using the right sac-crete mix, and bracing each post square while it cures. Get the plumbness off by half an inch at the post and the panel alignment is off by two inches at the far end. We’ve pulled plenty of three-week-old homeowner post jobs where the concrete was still soft in the center because nobody mixed it right. If the work matters, call the people who do it daily.
