Jerith Windows & Doors: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide

Jerith aluminum and steel windows and doors are common across Woodland Hills, especially in homes built in the 1970s through the 1990s. When a part fails, you’re usually looking at a replacement window or door section installed for $4,500 – $15,000, though a single part swap like a latch or roller often runs far less. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a door that drags against the track, a window that won’t lock, or a frame that’s started weeping rust onto the stucco after a wet winter.

Call (341) 217-2776

The good news is that Jerith parts are still obtainable if you know what to look for. The trick is matching the part to your specific series, because Jerith made several distinct lines over the decades, and a part from one won’t necessarily fit another. We keep common Jerith-compatible parts on the truck for service calls in Woodland Hills, and we can source less common ones from a network of West Coast suppliers. Call (341) 217-2776 if you’d like us to identify your part before you order the wrong thing.

Which Jerith Models This Applies To

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

Jerith has produced several window and door lines over the years, and here’s the compatibility gotcha: the model name is not stamped anywhere on the frame. What you’ll find instead is a small rectangular label on the headrail or the top edge of the sash, usually an alphanumeric code like “J-40” or “3100.” That code, not the general name, is what you need to match a part.

The common Jerith lines we see in Woodland Hills are the J-40 aluminum sliding windows, the 3100 series aluminum doors, and the heavier commercial-style 5000 series used on some hillside patios. Rollers, locks, and weatherstripping are series-specific; a 3100 roller assembly will not sit correctly in a J-40 track. If the label is missing or sun-faded to nothing, a quick measurement of the stile width will usually narrow it down. We can do that identification on site in about ten minutes.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for locks and handles, an OEM Jerith part is usually worth the few extra dollars because the screw holes are drilled to match. For rollers, quality aftermarket replacements with sealed bearings actually outlast the originals in our experience, especially in the dry, dusty conditions we get on the west side of the Valley. We’ll tell you which is worth spending on and which isn’t, because we’d rather you pay for parts that last than parts that say the right name.

Worth noting clearly: Sawyer Remodel Woodland Hills is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Jerith, and we don’t claim to be. What we are is familiar with their products, because dozens of homes in this area were built or retrofitted with them.

Signs Your Jerith Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Door drags or scuffs the track when you slide it. The rollers have flattened, worn through their nylon shell, or seized entirely. On Jerith doors, this is the number one failure point we see after a decade or so, and it only gets worse as the metal chews into the rail.
  • Window locks but leaves a visible gap at the meeting rail. The cam lock has worn down or the keeper has shifted. This is a security issue as much as an energy issue, and it’s one of the cheaper fixes if you catch it before the frame warps.
  • Rust staining on the stucco below the window or door. Aluminum frames corrode at the corners and along the sill if the drainage channels clog. In Woodland Hills, where we get dry summers but real rain in January and February, a clogged weep hole can turn a good frame into a leaker within a couple of seasons.
  • Glass fogs up permanently between the panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed, and no amount of cleaning fixes it. Jerith units from the 80s and 90s are at end of life, and the fix is a new sash or a full window, not a reseal.
  • Escutcheon plate or handle is cracked, loose, or missing. These are the first things to go on sliding patio doors because they take all the hand traffic. A loose handle is easy to ignore, but it’s usually a sign the internals are wearing too.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

If you’re replacing a full Jerith window or sliding door in Woodland Hills, the installed range is $4,500 – $15,000 depending on size, series, and whether you’re doing one opening or several. That’s the honest spread: a single standard 4-foot-wide slider is not the same job as a 12-foot patio wall, and neither is priced like the other.

If you’re only replacing a part, here’s where the math lands:

  • Roller assembly replacement: $30 – $90 per door in parts, plus about an hour of labor. Most doors need both rollers replaced at once.
  • Lock or handle replacement: $25 – $70 in parts. Labor is often 30 – 45 minutes unless the frame is worn around the keeper.
  • Weatherstripping replacement: $15 – $50 in materials, and it’s usually a 20-minute fix per window or door.
  • Insulated glass unit (seal failure): $200 – $600 per sash depending on size, with labor including removal and reglazing.

Every part we install comes with a fixed price before we start, and the work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we make it right. You’ll get a written quote that matches the invoice, not a number that grows at the door.

DIY or Call Us?

Some of this you can handle yourself, and we’d be lying if we said otherwise. Cleaning the track, checking the weep holes, and tightening a loose handle screw are all safe fifteen-minute jobs. If you can see the part and it’s an obvious swap, a door handle replacement is within reach for most people who own a screwdriver.

What we don’t recommend is pulling a sliding panel out of its track to swap rollers. Those panels are heavy, especially the larger Jerith sliders, and if it tips while it’s out of the frame, you’re looking at broken glass or an injured person. Rolling a door back onto new rollers is one of those jobs that looks easy and goes sideways fast. Call us at (341) 217-2776, and we’ll come out to Woodland Hills and do it in an afternoon without anyone getting hurt.
