Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide
If you’ve got a Techo-Bloc driveway or paver system in Woodland Hills and one or more units have shifted, cracked, or sunk, we stock and install Techo-Bloc-compatible pavers and the base materials they sit on. Typical repair or replacement of a failing section runs $3,500 – $11,000 installed, depending on square footage and how much of the base needs to be rebuilt. Owners usually notice the problem after a winter rain, when a low spot collects water, or when the edge of the driveway starts pulling away from the curb.
What most homeowners in Woodland Hills find is that the paver itself isn’t the failure point. It’s what’s underneath. The San Fernando Valley’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts through wet and dry seasons, and any base that wasn’t compacted in lifts will eventually telegraph right through the surface. You’ll see it as a sunken area near the garage apron, a heave line running diagonally across the driveway, or pavers that rock underfoot like a loose tooth.
We’re an independent local contractor in Woodland Hills, not a Techo-Bloc dealer. What that means for you is that we match the paver series correctly, order what we don’t carry from our supplier network, and do the install with the same base-prep standards the manufacturer specifies.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc manufactures a wide lineup, but in Woodland Hills the three series we see most often on driveways are Blu 60, Industra, and Mista. Patios and walkways skew toward Hexa, Para, or smaller-format Borealis pavers. Each series has different dimensional specs, and a paver from one line will not sit flush with a paver from another, even if they look close at a glance.
The fastest way to identify your exact paver is to flip one over. Techo-Bloc stamps the series name and mold number on the underside of nearly every unit. If the stamp has worn off, measure the paver’s length, width, and thickness in millimeters. Blu 60 pavers, for example, run 60mm thick and are designed for vehicular loads. The smaller patio stones often measure 40mm or less, and using one on a driveway is a structural mistake, not a cosmetic one.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Techo-Bloc color blends like Shale Grey, Chestnut Brown, or Almond Grove are proprietary. An aftermarket paver from a different manufacturer will never match the blend perfectly, even if the base color looks right in a photo. For driveway repairs, we always source genuine Techo-Bloc units from the matching series and color. For the base material, there’s no OEM requirement. Crushed aggregate and bedding sand are commodity materials, and we spec them by gradation, not brand.
One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Techo-Bloc has changed mold patterns over the years. A paver bought today under the same series name may have a slightly different edge chamfer than one installed eight years ago. The difference is small, but it shows. If your existing driveway is older, plan to blend the repair area in a larger section rather than a one-for-one patch, or replace the full field.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken dips that hold water after rain. This is base failure. Water pools in the low spot, works down through the joints, and accelerates erosion under adjacent pavers. In Woodland Hills, we see this most often where downspouts discharge onto the driveway edge.
- Pavers rocking or shifting when you walk or drive over them. The bedding sand has washed out or compacted unevenly. Every car pass grinds the pavers against each other, chipping the edges and widening the joints.
- Edge pavers separating from the curb or the lawn line. Without edge restraint, the outside course has nowhere to sit. The paver field starts creeping outward, opening gaps that invite weeds and ants.
- Wide, uneven joints with missing joint sand. Once the locking sand goes, the pavers lose lateral support. They start to drift, and the problem feeds itself as more sand washes out with every rain.
- Hairline cracks across the paver surface. This is usually a load or base problem, not a manufacturing defect. A thin base or a soft spot underneath lets the paver flex, and concrete pavers don’t flex. They crack.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Techo-Bloc paver repair or partial replacement in Woodland Hills, you’re looking at $3,500 – $11,000 installed, with most mid-size driveway repairs landing around $6,000 – $9,000. The spread comes from how much of the base needs rebuilding. If we only lift and re-set existing pavers with fresh bedding sand and joint sand, the low end of the range applies. If we’re excavating failed base, re-compacting in lifts, and installing new pavers, the price climbs accordingly.
Every quote is a written, line-item price before any work starts. That includes demolition and disposal of the failed section, new crushed aggregate base, bedding sand, genuine Techo-Bloc pavers matched to series and color, joint sand, and edge restraint where needed. We don’t quote one number and send a change order later. The number you approve is the number you pay.
Workmanship carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing. If the repair doesn’t hold, we return and fix it. No argument, no re-bid.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the diagnostic work on your own. Walk the driveway after a rain and mark every low spot with chalk. Check the edges for gaps. Pop a rocking paver out and look at the base underneath; if it’s soft, wet, or full of organic material, that’s your answer.
What you shouldn’t do is try to rebuild a vehicular base yourself unless you own a plate compactor and understand lift compaction. The soil under a Woodland Hills driveway is clay. It moves. Patching the surface without fixing the base means you’ll be back out there in two years looking at the same sag. We’ve pulled pavers out of homeowner repairs where the base was three inches of sand over uncompacted dirt. It looked fine for a season. Then the first big rains came.

FAQs

The pavers themselves have a 25+ year lifespan. What fails first in Woodland Hills is the base, usually within 10 – 15 years, because the Valley’s clay soil expands and contracts through drought and rain cycles. A properly compacted base extends the life of the whole system; a thin base shortens it dramatically. Call (341) 217-2776 for a base assessment, and we’ll tell you honestly how much life is left in your driveway.
Most of the time, yes. If the pavers are intact and only the bedding has settled, we lift, re-level, add base where needed, and re-set the original pavers. The repair bill is much lower than full replacement. If the base has failed across a large area or the pavers are heavily cracked, replacement of that section makes more sense. Call (341) 217-2776 and we’ll tell you which path applies before any work is scheduled.
A typical driveway section repair takes one to two days, including base rebuild, re-setting pavers, and joint sand. Larger areas or full driveway replacements run three to five days per 500 square feet. Weather in Woodland Hills rarely holds us up, and we’ll give you a written schedule before work starts.
We carry a rolling inventory of common Techo-Bloc series and colors on our trucks, mostly Blu 60 and Industra in the blends we see most across Woodland Hills. For less common colors or older molds, we order direct from our supplier network, which typically takes two to five business days. We’ll know which applies once we identify your series and color on site.
