Therma-Tru Kitchen Remodeling: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide

A full Therma-Tru kitchen remodel in Woodland Hills typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on how much of the kitchen you’re replacing and whether the Therma-Tru components are doors only, or doors plus frames and hardware. Most owners call us after years of living with a kitchen that fights back: a door that won’t close square, a finish that’s worn through at the pull, or hinges that sag under daily use. Here’s the thing about Therma-Tru in this part of the Valley: the dry heat and hard water aren’t kind to kitchen surfaces. Woodland Hills homes see big temperature swings between summer afternoons and cooler canyon evenings. That expansion and contraction is exactly what wears out door alignment, finish coatings, and hardware over time.

We’re Sawyer Remodel Woodland Hills, an independent remodeling contractor, and we’re not affiliated with Therma-Tru. What we are is a crew that has installed and replaced Therma-Tru kitchen components across the West Valley for years. Luca Romano runs the jobs, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every homeowner: the work tells you everything. We just make sure it tells the right story.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru kitchen components fall into a few broad categories, and knowing which one you have matters more than most people think. The biggest compatibility gotcha we see in Woodland Hills is homeowners assuming any replacement door fits. Therma-Tru makes doors in widths from 9 inches to 36 inches for kitchen applications, and the hinge boring pattern (the holes drilled for hinges) is not universal across their lines. A door from the Classic-Craft line won’t always swap onto a Smooth-Star frame without re-boring, and vice versa. Check the label: Therma-Tru stamps the series name inside the hinge edge or on the top rail of the door. If the label is gone, measure the door width, height, thickness, and the distance from the top of the door to the first hinge center. Write those numbers down before you call anyone.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Therma-Tru specifically, we recommend OEM doors and frames when the kitchen uses painted or stained finishes that need to match an existing set. Aftermarket replacement doors from a local millwork shop in the San Fernando Valley can look close, but the color match on a Therma-Tru finished door is hard to replicate exactly, especially after the original has spent years fading under Woodland Hills sun through a south-facing window. For hardware (hinges, pulls, catches), quality aftermarket parts from Blum or Salice in the same spec are often as good or better than OEM, and they’re usually in stock locally.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • The door rubs at the top corner when you close it. The hinges are worn or the frame has settled slightly. In Woodland Hills, the clay soil expands and contracts with seasonal moisture, and that movement shows up in door alignment before anywhere else. This almost never means you need a new door. It means the hinges need replacement and the door needs re-shimming.
  • The finish is worn through around the pull or handle. Therma-Tru factory finishes hold up well, but not forever. Once the topcoat is compromised, the underlying material absorbs moisture and oils from hands, and the wear accelerates. Refinishing in place is possible; matching an adjacent door’s aged finish usually isn’t.
  • A hinge screw keeps backing out no matter how many times you tighten it. The screw holes in the frame are stripped. Common on older Therma-Tru installations. The fix is a proper dowel-and-redrill or a thread insert, not a longer screw that splits the frame.
  • The door closes on its own or won’t stay open. Spring hinges or self-closing hardware is failing. If the tension mechanism inside the hinge is shot, the fix is a new hinge in the correct holding-force rating, not a door replacement.
  • Visible cracking or splitting at a panel joint or stile. This one is structural and it’s the real deal. The Valley’s dry heat will widen a hairline crack into a full split over a few seasons. Once a panel is cracked, a new door is the honest fix.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A stone counter, tile backsplash and open shelf after a kitchen remodel

For a Therma-Tru kitchen remodel in Woodland Hills, plan on $14,000 to $45,000 for a complete project. A small kitchen remodel, where you’re replacing doors, hardware, and refinishing frames, lands in the $9,000 to $20,000 range. Here’s the line-item breakdown for Therma-Tru-specific work:

  • Full kitchen remodel with Therma-Tru doors and frames: $14,000 – $45,000
  • Cabinet installation (including Therma-Tru millwork): $4,000 – $13,000
  • Countertop installation (Cambria, Silestone, or Caesarstone): $2,000 – $6,500
  • Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000

Every one of those numbers is a written price before we start. Not an estimate that drifts. Not a “we’ll see how it goes.” The number you approve is the number on the invoice. That’s how Sawyer Remodel Woodland Hills has operated since 2005 under The Relay Standard: written price, live arrival time, before-and-after photo updates, and a digital invoice you pay from a link. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can check the label, measure your door, and diagnose hinge wear yourself. That’s useful, and it helps you talk to any contractor intelligently. What you shouldn’t do is try to re-hang a Therma-Tru door, re-bore hinge patterns, or refinish a factory finish without the right tooling. A mis-bored hinge on a replacement door ruins it, and a bad refinish is worse than the wear it covers. We’ve rebuilt kitchen door sets in neighborhoods from Warner Center to the hillside streets above Topanga Canyon Boulevard where a homeowner gave it a shot first. The fix usually costs more than the original repair would have.

Luca learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has spent close to two decades on job sites, from foundation work to full kitchen overhauls. He’ll tell you straight if something is a simple swap or a full replacement. Call (341) 217-2776 and we’ll come look.
